Inspiring the Next Generation of Teachers: CFS Partners with Educators Rising South Dakota

CFS Staff Member

At Community and Family Services (CFS), we believe in the power of early inspiration, especially when it comes to shaping the future of education. That’s why we’re excited to announce a new partnership with Educators Rising South Dakota, a program that supports high school students interested in becoming teachers.

This partnership is about more than just career exploration. It’s about showing future educators what it really means to create strong, supportive learning environments by engaging families and communities in the process.

A Shared Mission: Building Strong Classrooms Through Relationships

Educators Rising is a national career and technical student organization with state chapters, like Educators Rising SD, that help young people explore the teaching profession. Students learn not only about instruction and classroom leadership, but also about the human side of teaching—relationships, trust, and the kind of connection that makes learning possible.

That’s where CFS comes in.

“Partnering with Educators Rising gives us a great opportunity to bring in family and community engagement while potential teachers are still in high school,” said Morgan VonHaden, Deputy Director of CFS. “They’ll see firsthand how it works and can carry that mindset into their own classrooms.”

By helping students understand the importance of family engagement now, we’re planting seeds that will grow into stronger classrooms, better communication, and more meaningful learning later on.

Supporting the Future of Education in South Dakota

Through this partnership, CFS will offer support, resources, and real-life stories to help students connect their passion for teaching with the bigger picture: learning doesn’t just happen in schools—it happens in homes, neighborhoods, and communities, too.

“We are excited to partner with the CFS Division to offer this unique opportunity to South Dakota high school students,” said Travis Lape, Educators Rising State Director. “By providing students with the tools they need to succeed in this field, we are investing in the future of education.”

Whether students pursue elementary education, special education, or become school counselors or principals down the road, we want them to carry with them a deep understanding of how partnerships with families can elevate every child’s success.

Looking Ahead

This is just the beginning. As the partnership grows, so will opportunities for students to participate in family-focused projects, hear from guest speakers, and gain hands-on experience that highlights the heart of teaching: relationships.

We’re proud to walk alongside Educators Rising SD to support, inspire, and empower South Dakota’s future educators—and we can’t wait to see the incredible impact they’ll make.
