Navigating Fatherhood Together: Stronger Dads, Stronger Families

CFS Staff Member

ef-blog-mainFatherhood is a journey that shapes not only our children’s lives but our own. The Engaging Fathers Cohort, brought to you by the South Dakota Statewide Family Engagement Center (SFEC), is a powerful, five-part program dedicated to supporting and empowering fathers. Through guided discussions, hands-on learning, and shared experiences, fathers gain essential tools to strengthen their bonds with their children, grow as parents, and create brighter futures for their families.

Reflecting on Cohort I: Powerful Impact, Stronger Connections

Earlier this year Cohort I successfully wrapped up, and the impact was powerful. Fathers shared personal stories of how the program helped them rediscover their influence and build deeper connections at home. One father shared, “Being active in my child’s life has a lasting effect on who they grow up to be.” Another father reflected, “I am committed to always stay involved in my kids’ lives, no matter how far away they live.”

For many, the biggest takeaway was realizing they weren’t alone in the journey. As one father put it, “Hearing others with their stories and how things are kind of similar with how they are with their kids” gave him a sense of community and encouragement.

Fathers walked away with practical strategies such as setting routines, applying positive discipline, and supporting their children through life’s transitions. One participant shared a key takeaway: “How much other fathers are willing to be proactive in being a part of their children’s lives” was both motivating and inspiring.

Looking Forward: Cohort II and How You Can Join

With Cohort I now complete, the program’s success is clear: when dads are supported, families grow stronger—and communities do too.

Cohort II kicks off Wednesday, November 5 and continues monthly through March, ending with a celebration of progress and growth. This is your opportunity to join a community of fathers committed to building lasting relationships with their children.
